MALVERN, Pa. — Vishay Intertechnology (NYSE: VSH) is adding to its optoelectronics product portfolio with two new infrared transceivers that support the IrDA® high-speed IrSimpleShot™ protocol for beaming digital pictures directly from camera phones to TVs, printers, and other enabled camera phones.

Vishay's TFDU6300 and TFDU6301 provide the fast infrared (FIR) 4 Mbit/s data rate required by IrSimpleShot within a miniaturized package that fits easily into today's compact mobile phones, digital still cameras and TVs. With dimensions of only 2.5 mm (H) x 3.0 mm (W) x 8.3 mm (L), the new transceivers require minimal battery power thanks to their low receive operating (or idle) current of 1.8 mA and shutdown current of 0.01 µA.

The IrSimpleShot technology was developed by companies including NTT DoCoMo and Sharp to set free the billions of images trapped in camera phones and digital still cameras. Based on proven IrDA and Remote Control technologies, IrSimpleShot allows users to beam photos directly to TVs and printers quickly and easily, without the need for cables or a complicated software set-up.

The TFDU6300 and TFDU6301 FIR transceivers are fully compliant with IrDA Physical Layer, transmitting data over distances upwards of 0.7 meters. Even more importantly for mobile phone manufacturers, they can transmit TV remote control signals over distances of up to 25 meters. The TFDU6300 and TFDU6301 are pin-compatible to Vishay's TFDU4300 (SIR, 115 kbit/s) and TFDU5307 (MIR, 1 Mbit/s), which allows customers to migrate to faster data rates without changing their existing PCB layout.

The operating voltage range of the TFDU6300 and TFDU6301 is from 2.4 V to 3.6 V. The TFDU6300 I/O voltage is dependent on the voltage of the external power supply. The TFDU6301 I/O voltage is 1.8 V, allowing direct connection to a microcontroller's I/Os with 1.8-V logic. Both devices are lead (Pb)-free and capable of lead-free processing in accordance with RoHS 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC. The transceivers have integrated EMI protection so no external shield is required.

Samples and production quantities are available now with lead times of four weeks.
