MILPITAS, CA – Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance analog solutions, today introduced a new triple-channel analog front end (AFE) device that delivers optimal performance for televisions, monitors, home theater and business projectors.

Intersil's ISL98001 is a triple-channel, 8-bit video AFE that incorporates all of the functions required to digitize YPbPr (component) video signals and RGB (red, green, blue) graphics signals from DVD players, VCRs, set-top boxes and personal computers. It is available in five different speeds ranging from 140Mpixels/s to 275Mpixels/s, providing a solution for every video resolution.

The ISL98001's fast conversion rates support HDTV resolution up to 1080p and computer monitor resolutions up to QXGA. The programmable input bandwidth incorporated in the AFE ensures sharp, clean images at all resolutions. In addition, the ISL98001 delivers very low jitter, high bandwidth and excellent linearity for monitors, business projectors, televisions and home theater projectors. Its automatic black level compensation ensures outstanding black level performance for even the lowest-cost home theater systems, delivering excellent color reproduction even with temperature variations.

"The ISL98001 provides the industry's highest speeds along with continuously controlled offset voltages, so designers do not have to calibrate offset error out of their system on an AFE-by-AFE basis," said Kathryn Tucker, marketing manager for Intersil's Video products group. "The digital phase locked loop (DPLL) even includes headswitching support, enabling high-performance images even under the worst-case scenario of digitizing inputs from a high-definition digital VCR playing back a standard VHS tape."

High Speed and Sharp Images
One of the most innovative features of the ISL98001 is its digital phase locked loop technology, which allows Intersil to provide a maximum jitter of 450ps (250ps typical) peak-to-peak, the best in the industry and a necessity for UXGA and higher PC resolutions. A "peaking" function compensates for input degradation in instances of low-channel bandwidth, and integrated HSYNC and SOG signal processing eliminates the need for external sync slicers, sync separators, Schmitt triggers and noise filters.

About Intersil's Video Products
From high-performance video amplifiers to differential line equalizers, Intersil's portfolio of video products can address any portion of the analog signal chain. The number and variety of video products on the market continues to grow. With the expansion of HDTV and high-resolution RGB (red, green, blue) signals, the most common point-to-point connection for a video signal is analog. Intersil's video ICs provide many solutions for moving these signals around. Whether it is transmitting RGB down CAT-5 or switching 32 security video feeds, Intersil has a solution. Also, Intersil's ISL5944x family extends the available bandwidth of RGB multiplexers on the market from 500 MHz up to 1GHz – the first time this barrier has been broken. Intersil continues to deliver best-in-class video solutions for its customers, addressing every piece of the signal chain.
