| USB 2.0 Full-Speed Transceiver with UART Multiplexing Mode Allows USB or UART Signaling Through One Connector | | | | SUNNYVALE, CA— Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3349EA, a USB 2.0 full-speed transceiver with UART multiplexing mode. The UART interface allows mobile devices, such as PDAs, cellular phones, and digital cameras, to use either UART or USB signaling through the same connector, thus reducing cost and part count for mobile devices.
The MAX3349EA features ±15kV ESD protection on the D+ and D- pins, a built-in level shifter that allows a variable interface voltage (from 1.4V to 2.75V) to a microprocessor or ASIC, and a separate UART voltage-supply input to support legacy devices using 2.75V signaling. The MAX3349EA supports a maximum UART baud rate of 921kbaud.
This device provides an internal 1.5kOhm pullup resistor on the D+ pin to allow the device to logically connect and disconnect from the USB bus while plugged in. The MAX3349EA also has a suspend input (SUS) for low-power operation and a VBUS-detect signal to indicate connection to the USB host. In USB mode, an internal linear regulator allows direct powering of the device from the USB cable.
The MAX3349EA operates over the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). This device is available in 2mm x 2mm, 16-bump (4x) UCSP™ and 4mm x 4mm x 0.8mm, 16-pin TQFN* packages. Prices start at $1.20 (2.5k-up, FOB USA).
