Norwood, MA - Analog Devices is introducing the first precision dual operational amplifier optimized for low-noise performance in applications operating at +2.7 V to +5.5 V. For designers of low-voltage instrumentation, audio, communications and medical systems that require more than one precision amplifier, the AD8656 is the dual version of ADI’s recently announced AD8655, which specifies up to two-thirds less noise than competing solutions. The AD8656 offers the low-noise performance advantages of the AD8655, along with the board space reduction and cost savings of a dual amplifier.

Precision Performance, Low Noise and Distortion
The AD8656 CMOS amplifier delivers precision offset voltage performance of 250 microvolts max over the full common-mode voltage range. The device offers low noise of 2.7 nV/rt Hz at 10 kHz and low distortion of 0.0008 percent, eliminating the need for external transistor stages or multiple parallel amplifiers to reduce system level noise. High accuracy without system trimming is achieved through ADI’s DigiTrim™ in-package trim technology. The ability to swing rail-to-rail at the input and output enables designers to buffer ADC (analog-to-digital converter) inputs, DAC (digital-to-analog converter) outputs, and other wide output swing devices in single-supply systems.

Fully specified over the –40 degrees C to +125 degrees C temperature range, the AD8656 features 28 MHz bandwidth and offset voltage drift of 0.4 microvolts/degree C typical and 2.3 microvolts/degree C max.

Applications
Excellent noise performance and low-voltage operation makes the AD8656 well-suited for a variety of industrial, communications, consumer and medical applications. Low distortion and fast settling time allows the AD8656 to drive high precision ADCs such as ADI’s AD7685, maintaining the accuracy needed in industrial and instrumentation applications, including data acquisition and test equipment systems. For consumer and audio applications, the combination of low distortion, wide dynamic range and high output current is ideal for microphone pre-amps, filters and line input buffering.

Availability and Pricing
The AD8656 low-noise dual amplifier is available now and is priced at $1.10 per unit in 1,000 piece-quantities. It is packaged in both 8-lead MSOP and 8-lead SOIC.
