Microchip Technology Offers Smaller Package Options for Popular PIC® Microcontrollers

CHANDLER, Ariz., - Microchip Technology Inc., announced new 4x4mm QFN package options for the most popular Mid-Range (x14 Architecture) PIC® microcontrollers in 8-, 14- and 20-pin packages. These new package options are designed to accommodate a wide variety of space-constrained applications such as DC/DC point-of-load (POL) converters and handheld consumer electronics.

Many embedded engineers are faced with squeezing their applications into ever-smaller spaces. Microchip has responded to this need by offering its low pin count PIC microcontrollers in new 4x4mm QFN packages, which are 50 – 70 percent smaller than SOIC and SSOP packages.

“Our customers are continuously asking for higher featured devices in increasingly smaller packages,” said Steve Drehobl, vice president of Microchip’s Security, Microcontroller and Technology Development Division. “The high level of integration, combined with the smaller package options, further expands the uses for PIC microcontrollers.”
