AUSTIN, Texas – Eight of the 12 winners of the International Engine of the Year Awards contain
powertrain control solutions from Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE:FSL, FSL.B). Freescale-powered winners include BMW’s
new five-liter V10 (named International Engine of the Year, Best New Engine, Best Performance Engine and Best Above
4-liter), as well as Fiat-GM’s 1.3 liter diesel (named Best 1-liter to 1.4-liter).
Freescale’s 32-bit
microcontrollers containing PowerPC® cores help improve vehicle performance, increase fuel economy, decrease
emissions and create a smoother driving experience for a wide range of engine sizes. The technology provides
sophisticated injection and engine management, and enables a number of features such as cruise control, cold engine
startup, fuel shut-off for safety and security lock-out.
“Congratulations to our partners, some
of the world’s leading automobile manufacturers, for receiving Engine of the Year Awards acknowledging the superior
quality and performance of their engines,” said Ross McOuat, European marketing director for Freescale’s automotive
microcontroller business. “These awards embody the close collaboration we maintain with our customers in delivering
innovative powertrain solutions.”
Freescale is the world’s leading supplier of semiconductors to
the automotive market. The company’s microcontrollers act as the brains behind automotive electronic systems from
remote keyless entry and infotainment to antilock braking and powertrain control. |
