| IBM Signs Agreement to Acquire PureEdge Solutions Inc., Add Electronic Forms Cap | |||||
SOMERS, N.Y -- IBM announced it has signed an agreement to acquire PureEdge Solutions Inc., a privately held company based in Victoria, BC Canada. Financial terms were not disclosed. PureEdge is one of the leading developers of electronic forms (or e-forms), which help companies customize the employee interface to business applications and enables the capture, process, and display of business data. IBM will integrate PureEdge e-forms into its portfolio of collaboration technology, including IBM Workplace and Lotus(R) offerings. The acquisition also complements IBM's fast-growing content management business. PureEdge technology takes back-end corporate data and applications -- such as inventory figures, customer data or pricing information -- and presents it to end-users in a standardized, customizable template, which has been successful in vertical industries like insurance, government, banking and healthcare. By providing greater efficiency and accuracy than paper forms, e-forms technology helps businesses and organizations more quickly and easily share information, which can increase both individual and organizational productivity. "Forms and documents are an important part of running any business, and leveraging electronic forms can maximize business processes and contribute to productivity and growth," said Ambuj Goyal, general manager, Workplace, Portal, Lotus and Collaboration Software, IBM. "By adding PureEdge e-form technology to our collaboration and content management portfolio, IBM is providing an open standards-based electronic forms framework that integrates people, processes and information and increases overall organizational productivity while helping customers move to On Demand business." PureEdge e-forms are based on Extensible Markup Language (XML), which provides a consistent format for the sharing of documents and transactions between different applications. Support for XML allows users to rapidly create, manage and exchange forms and documents within their business, as well as with their partners and customers. Full XML compliance is one of the reasons why PureEdge is one of the leading providers of e-forms and business process automation solutions. PureEdge has taken a fundamentally different approach from proprietary e-forms products by offering solutions that are built on open standards. PureEdge has been an active supporter of the industry standard for electronic form documents called XForms. This approach can allow greater interoperability providing increased flexibility, innovation and cost benefits to customers without limiting the choice in software, operating system or computing platform. XForms is designed as the next generation of XML-enabled web forms enabling interoperable form document, data capture and processing on any device. IBM is a strong supporter of XForms and will continue to contribute and support the adoption of this open industry standard.
