| Dollar Thrifty Auto Group and IBM Team Up on Rental System | |||||
ARMONK, NY - IBM today announced that Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, Inc. has embarked on a first step in upgrading its rental system with new IBM POWER5(TM) processor based systems. The new on demand infrastructure delivers substantial performance and availability advantages over its previous rental system. Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group (DTG) replaced an existing infrastructure with IBM eServer(TM) p5 570 systems running the AIX® operating system. By leveraging the 64-bit POWER5 performance, DTG is able to more effectively leverage new database technology and functionality in its rental system application -- translating directly to higher satisfaction and value to their customers. The reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS) features along with the rich set of on-demand scalability of the p5 systems also offer DTG customers a robust platform that will accommodate their needs well into the future. IBM Migration Factory Makes Move Seamless In order to maintain the highest levels of customer service and security, Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group required a seamless migration from its existing systems to the POWER5-based IBM eServer p5 570 systems. Using consulting services and technology from IBM's Migration Factory, the transition to the upgrades took place in remarkable time -- complete in 120 days with only three hours of total downtime. "Given the performance requirements of the enhanced rental system, it was clear that Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group needed a change," stated Greg Lukeman, Executive Director, ITTS Infrastructure, Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, Inc. "Of equal importance, however, was a seamless transition from the previous platform to the IBM systems -- one that protected our levels of customer service while containing costs and project complexity. IBM's migration factory far exceeded our high standards for this project." DTG replaced its database infrastructure with a new IBM eServer p5 infrastructure comprised of p5 570 systems running the AIX operating system. Based on IBM's 64-bit POWER5 architecture, the new p5 systems, including virtualization technology, allowed the company to modernize its rental system with Oracle's latest functionality. The p5 systems also provide 24/7 back-up services to the enterprise to safely track critical online reservation and customer data. | |||||
