Biamp Systems Extends Cirrus Logic CobraNet Technology License to Include Gigabit Digital Audio Networking Applications

ORLANDO, Fla – Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS) announces that Biamp Systems, a leading manufacturer of professional audio equipment, has extended its licensing agreement for Cirrus Logic’s CobraNet™ technology to include next-generation gigabit-Ethernet-based CobraNet networked digital audio products.

In November 2005, Cirrus Logic announced an agreement with Gibson Guitar Corp. to develop gigabit -Ethernet-based networked digital audio products based upon CobraNet technology, the de facto professional and commercial audio industry standard for delivering uncompressed digital audio via Ethernet networks, and compatible with Gibson’s MaGIC technology. After reviewing competing digital audio networking technologies, Biamp® has committed to future CobraNet gigabit products due to CobraNet’s superior ability to deliver and process audio signals while providing a reliable platform for networking in fixed AV installations.

“Although there are other Ethernet-based protocols that allow transmission of digital audio, none of them are as network centric as CobraNet. This is what makes CobraNet technology our protocol of choice,” said Matt Czyzewski, vice president of technical operations, Biamp Systems. “Our customers have designed some truly remarkable audio networks using our CobraNet capable AudiaFLEX product, and we want to empower them with the ability to do so even as our industry advances well into the 21st century.”

“Biamp’s continued commitment to CobraNet technology underscores CobraNet’s leadership in this new era of products where higher channel count, lower latency and networked digital audio capabilities demand gigabit Ethernet networks as the standard platform,” said Keith Cheney, vice president and general manager, Embedded Products Division, Cirrus Logic. “CobraNet technology is the leading industry standard today for networked audio, and we are committed to extending our leadership with solutions that include cost-effective integrated circuits, software and other products.”

Cirrus Logic’s gigabit-Ethernet networked digital audio products, which will be introduced in 2006, will provide high-channel count media transport solutions for professional markets, while enabling secure multiroom distribution of media content in consumer markets. Unlike dedicated networks that leverage Ethernet technology, CobraNet operates over standard Ethernet equipment without the need for customization.

The new products will be designed to provide high-bandwidth, ultra-low latency and secure audio and video transport. Such technologies will dramatically improve distribution and management of digital content for use in such fields as recording, live music distribution and network-based consumer content delivery, while providing the foundation for media content protection.
