|Harris Corporation's NEXIO XS HD/SD Server System Chosen by SBS Korea for Broadcast of 2006 Doha Asian Games|
HONG KONG, — Harris Corporation today announced that its NEXIO XS™ HD/SD shared storage transmission server system has been selected by Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS), one of Korea's largest television broadcasters, for use in coverage of the 2006 Doha Asian Games. The event is being held in Doha, Qatar, from December 1-15 with an expected 45 countries competing in 39 sporting events. AIBB, Harris Corporation's dealer representative in Korea, facilitated the sale with SBS.
"SBS needed a server-based production system that would provide flexibility, stability and reliability so we could be confident that our broadcast of the games in Doha would be of the highest quality," said Mr. Choi Sangdam, managing director of broadcast engineering for SBS. "There is no room for error during a live broadcast, and we are confident the Harris® NEXIO XS server and VelocityNX system will help us to provide our viewers with superior coverage of this international sports competition."
The 2006 Doha Asian Games will mark the first time SBS will use a server-based production system to broadcast a live event. The system configuration includes six NEXIO XS servers with 36 channels — 12 for ingest and 24 for playout — and two VelocityNX™ full-featured HD/SD promotions craft editors. Integrated into the NEXIO SAN™, VelocityNX™ enables editing of native HD and SD content (both 720p and 1080i) directly from the NEXIO™ shared storage architecture. At the 2006 Doha Asian Games, the NEXIO XS system will be used for ingest and recording of major clips of sports events, which will later be extracted and trimmed for sports highlights. Editors will use VelocityNX™ to access live recording almost immediately and begin editing highlights or trimming events into a format ready for broadcasting.
The NEXIO XS system will run in PAL SD for the 2006 Doha Asian Games. Upon conclusion of the 2006 Doha Asian Games, the NEXIO XS system will be used by the SBS facility in Seoul to broadcast HD programming.
"We are pleased that SBS has placed such confidence in Harris for coverage of such a high-profile, live event as the Doha Asian Games," said Mr. Tim Thorsteinson, president of the Harris Broadcast Communications Division. "This sale underscores both the high level of NEXIO XS™ reliability and performance as well as the Harris reputation for top-quality customer service and support."
