PMC-Sierra Reaches Milestone of Shipping Four Million 4Gbit/s Fibre Channel Ports
 
 


SANTA CLARA, Calif.-- PMC-Sierra, Inc. today announced that its market-leading end-to-end 4Gbit/s Fibre Channel chipset, comprised of Tachyon(R) Fibre Channel controllers and Cut-Through Switches, surpassed the four million ports shipped milestone. The chipset has garnered multiple design wins at four out of the top five global enterprise storage system original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and is enabling the rapid Fortune 500 market adoption of high-performance end-to-end 4Gbit/s Fibre Channel storage systems.

PMC-Sierra's end-to-end 4Gbit/s Fibre Channel chipset (see Tables 1 and 2) provides seamless connectivity from host to hard disk drive with best-in-class price-performance (see Figure 1). The chipset is optimized to enable storage system OEMs to increase the reliability, serviceability and availability of their storage systems. In addition, PMC-Sierra's solution minimizes development costs by providing a common programming interface across the product line and guarantees interoperability from host to disk drive.
