AKM’s New CODEC supports 192kHz and is ideal for Professional, Consumer applications and Car Audio Systems

Tokyo, Japan, - Asahi Kasei Microsystems Co., Ltd., a leading supplier of audio ICs for professional and consumer markets, today introduced the AK4556, a 24-bit 2-channel A/D, D/A converter offering high performance with low voltage operation. This latest addition to AKM’s Audio4proTM range meets the demanding requirements of both professional and consumer markets.

AKM already produces the 24-bit CODEC AK4552 for consumer and musical instrument applications, which is capable of up to 96kHz sampling. The AK4556 improves on this by achieving a sample rate of up to 216kHz, which makes the new CODEC perfect for professional variable pitch applications. It is also compatible with the AK4552 to make upgrading easy.

The more flexible audio port supports MSB justified and I2S formats for the ADC output, and MSB justified, LSB justified and I2S formats for the DAC input.
The ADC side features enhanced dual-bit architecture with a linear phase decimation digital filter. The DAC side makes full use of AKM's advanced multi-bit delta-sigma modulator with a linear interpolation digital filter and offers the low jitter performance of AKM's switched-capacitor (SC) technology. The ADC and DAC each have a dynamic range of 103dB and 106dB, which is 6dB higher than that of the AK4552. The operating voltage ranges from 2.4 to 3.6V (at fs = 8 ~ 108kHz), and 2.7 to 3.6V (at fs = 108 ~ 216kHz).
