Ultra-low Power 24-bit DACs with Integrated Headphone Amplifier for Cell Phones and PMPs

Asahi Kasei EMD Corporation launched the AK4370 and AK4371 - two ultra-low power 24-bit DACs with integrated high output headphone amplifiers for cell phones, smart phones and PMPs.

These latest additions to the Audio2goTM family provide the proven performance now expected in cell phones and portable devices with integrated music players, but moreover they introduce multiple new advanced features to the AK436X-series of DACs.

The AK4371 incorporates a PLL, supporting external BICK and LRCK as clock sources, in addition to cell phone standards and USB system clock frequencies. This makes it easy to synchronize the DAC with an application processor without a master clock.

AK4370 and AK4371 both feature built-in analogue and digital headphone volume controls. They also include four and six differential analogue inputs respectively, which can be internally mixed and eliminates the need for external switches. In addition, the AK4371 also has an integrated 600-ohm mono drive amplifier making it ideal for hands-free operation requirements. The AK4370 and AK4371 achieve ultra-low power consumption (6.8mW) at 1.8V, significant power saving and extending music playback time for battery operated equipment.

The power management functions, volume control and analogue mixing function are controlled via a flexible three-wire, or I2C bus interface. The minimum supply voltage of 1.6V saves power consumption and makes it easy to interface with a processor. The built-in voltage reference in the AK4371 provides a high tolerance to power-supply noise.
