| EMERSON NETWORK POWER LAUNCHES FIRST POWER-OVER-ETHERNET SUPPLY FROM ASTEC POWER; DESIGNED FOR 802.3AF COMPLIANCE | |||||
CARLSBAD, Calif.— Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson , has announced the availability of Astec Power’s DS657 AC/DC source for Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) applications. Featuring IEEE 802.3af compliance, the slim 1U device supplies 657W of power at 48/51VDC for endspan and midspan PoE implementations along with an isolated 12V for a distributed power source. Universal input of 85VAC to 264VAC at 47Hz to 63Hz gives the new model flexibility to address the requirements of a range of new Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones and other active-Ethernet devices on a worldwide basis. “With the increasing popularity of IP telephony and remote access devices that use inline power, the marketplace has been looking for a robust PoE solution,” explained Astec Power product marketing director Chris Jones. “With the Astec DS657, we have an answer that can meet a variety of large and medium-scale 802.3af requirements for endspan and midspan power while offering 2,250 volts of DC isolation, EN601000-3-2 harmonic compliance, EMI filtering and active power factor correction. The hot-swap capability, 20ms minimum holdup time and demonstrated MTBF in excess of 500,000 hours are especially desirable for critical installations.” In addition to the 48VDC and 12VDC nominal outputs, the Astec DS657 unit includes a 0.5A 12VDC standby output. The compact, ball-bearing fan-cooled 1U device operates from 0 to 50 degrees C and can also be mounted vertically for zero-U installation. It also features active current sharing and fan-speed control as well as overcurrent, overvoltage and overtemperature protection. A standard IEC320 inlet provides AC input power, while three LEDs indicate AC Power In, DC Power Out and Temperature status. I2C communications enable full logic control, via the blind-mate hot plug connector, for additional customization and functionality. Backed by a one-year warranty, the new Astec DS657 models meet international safety and performance standards including listings from or compliance with UL, TUV, IEC, FCC, CISPR and CE.
