MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA — In a
breakthrough for wet tantalum capacitor technology, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today announced additions to the
SuperTan® family of wet tantalum capacitors that include a device with the highest capacitance value yet
achieved in the standard T4 package.
With a rugged, all-tantalum construction, the
new SuperTan Extended (STE) capacitors provide reliable performance in low-voltage filtering and energy storage
applications for demanding, high-stress military and aerospace systems including weapon systems, radars,
transponders, and power supplies. STE capacitors combine the inherent reliability of wet tantalum
capacitors with the capacitance stability of solid tantalum to eliminate circuit impedance restrictions and
dramatically increase capacitance ratings. A unique cathode system used in these SuperTan devices provides the
highest capacitance-per-unit volume available on the market. The hermetically sealed, extended-range STE
devices are available in industry-standard T1, T2, T3, and T4 case sizes. In the T4 case size measuring 1.062 in.
[26.97 mm] long and 0.375 in. [9.53 mm] in diameter, the new device features capacitance ratings of 750 µF at
75 V and 6000 µF at 16 V - ratings that are up to six times greater than those of conventional wet tantalum
products. By providing designers with a new high standard for capacitance in a single device, the new STE
capacitors enable reduction of capacitor or component count, lower the amount of board space required, and simplify
the overall manufacturing and assembly process. STE
capacitors are capable of withstanding a 2,000-hour life test at a temperature of +85 °C at the applicable rated
dc working voltage. Capacitance tolerance at 120 Hz and +25 °C is ±20%, with ±10% available upon
request. The devices' operating temperature range is -55 °C to +85 °C. This may be extended to +125 °C
with proper derating. Samples and production quantities of the new SuperTan capacitors are available now,
with a lead time of 8 to 10 weeks for larger orders. |
