Micrel Launches New Two-In-One Voltage Supervisor

San Jose, Calif., June 13, 2005 ¾ Micrel Inc., (Nasdaq:MCRL), - launched the MIC2772, a new, two-in-one voltage supervisor that provides under-voltage monitoring and power-on reset generation in tiny 2mm x 2mm MLF™ packaging. The chip can replace single discrete voltage supervisors such as MIC1810, MIC1815, MIC809, MIC811, MIC6315, etc. The solution is ideal for a diverse array of systems where space is limited and multiple supplies must be monitored including servers, embedded controllers, telecommunications systems, power supply sequencing, hot-swapping, and power supplies. The IC is available in volume quantities with pricing starting at $0.52 for 1K quantity.

“There is no end to applications that require monitoring for multiple supplies,” noted Scott Brown, director of Mixed-Signal and RF Products, Micrel. “The challenge has been to meet designers ever shrinking size requirements. Engineers now require the absolute minimum board space for these types of functions and Micrel’s new MIC2772 addresses this necessity with a new two-in-one, cost and board-saving solution.”

The MIC2772 features two completely independent voltage supervisors, each offering an under-voltage detector, a delay-generator, and a de-bounced manual reset input. The reset output is asserted at power-on and any time the input voltage drops below the reference voltage. It remains asserted for the chosen timeout period after the input rises back above the threshold. Reset timeouts of 20, 140, and 1100ms (minimum) are available. The IC de-bounces manual reset inputs, generates power-on reset pulses and comes in ultra-small, 2mm x 2mm MLF packaging.

“Design innovation continues to be a major product focus at Micrel,” noted Bob Whelton, executive vice president of Operations, Micrel. “The MIC2772 gives designers the performance option they demand, significantly decreasing space requirements.”
