Micrel Announces Smallest Ever Low Power Radio Module

San Jose, Calif. — Micrel Inc. today launched the MICRF600, the latest in Micrel’s family of low-power radio modules. The module, designed to operate in the unlicensed 915MHz band, is the smallest, most cost-effective transceiver module from Micrel thus far. It is aimed at the building control, industrial automation and advance remote control markets. The MICRF600 is currently sampling with volume quantities available in the fourth quarter of 2005.

“Most RF modules currently on the market represent a costly, if less complex alternative, to designing with actual chips,” noted Stein Eskerud, managing director of Micrel Norway. “Micrel’s new MICRF600 represents a cost-effective alternative for small- to medium-sized projects by enabling customers to significantly shorten their design-in cycle and decrease associated engineering costs. This translates into decreased time-to-market, always key in this highly competitive market.”

The MICRF600 features an ultra-small footprint of 11.5 mm x 14 mm. It enables faster time to market by removing many RF design decisions associated with a conventional IC or discrete RF design. Modules on the market today are typically more expensive than IC solutions. These latest modules from Micrel are far more cost effective and are code compatible with Micrel’s popular MICRF505 and MICRF506 RadioWire® transceivers. Code compatibility enables a relatively easy migration path from module to an IC-based solution.
