Micrel Introduces MicrelNet™ Free Firmware Solution For Wireless Networking

San Jose, Calif., June 20, 2005 ¾ Micrel Inc., today announced the immediate availability of MicrelNet ™, a free firmware stack to be used in conjunction with the MICRF505 and MICRF506 RadioWire ® transceivers to create a wireless networking solution for telemetry, building and residential home control.

“We are seeing many of our customers using the Micrel RF transceivers and creating their own protocol to implement wireless networks,” stated Scott Brown, director of Mixed-Signal and RF Products, Micrel. “It is our goal to make Micrel’s RF products the easiest to use in the industry. By offering this networking capability, we are able to further reduce the engineering burden on our customers and enable them to get to market faster.”

The MICRF505 is a transceiver solution that operates from 850MHz to 950MHz and supports FSK modulation at data-rates up to 200kbps. Through high integration, the number of external components has been reduced to just a handful of capacitors, one inductor and a crystal, making the MICRF505 an ideal solution for lowering Bill of Materials in a wide variety of RF applications. The MICRF506 transceiver operates from 410MHz to 450MHz and supports FSK modulation at data-rates up to 200kbps. Many functions are user programmable including the frequency synthesizer, making the MICRF506 suitable for frequency hopping applications. MicrelNet is a firmware s tack that supports wireless networking with a star networking topology. The solution can be configured to operate as a basic star network to a complex multi-level, multi-cluster solution with repeat functionality.
