High-Speed, 12-bit Simultaneous-Sampling ADCs Offer ±10v, ±5v, and 0V to 5V Inputs

SUNNYVALE, CA - Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX1304/MAX1305/MAX1306, MAX1308/ MAX1309/MAX1310, and MAX1312/MAX1313/MAX1314 simultaneous-sampling analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). Compared to the Company's previous simultaneous-sampling ADCs, these devices sample up to 8 channels simultaneously instead of 4, offer bipolar inputs without negative supply requirements, and provide a 10x improvement in sampling rate, all while reducing footprint by a factor of 2.3x.

This new ADC family features 0 to 5V (MAX1304/MAX1305/MAX1306), ±5 (MAX1308/MAX1309/MAX1310), and ±10V (MAX1312/MAX1313/MAX1314) analog inputs. The 0 to 5V versions provide ±6V overvoltage fault protection, while the ±5 and ±10V devices provide ±16.5V overvoltage fault protection. The ADCs are available in 8 channels (MAX1304/MAX1308/MAX1312), 4 channels (MAX1305/MAX1309/MAX1313), and 2 channels (MAX1306/MAX1310/MAX1314).

These ADCs integrate a high-speed, 20MHz parallel interface, internal 2.5V reference, and an internal or external conversion clock. The parts convert 2 channels in 2µs or 8 channels in 3.8µs, and have an 8-channel throughput of 400ksps per channel. The devices accept bipolar or unipolar inputs, while operating from a 5V analog and 2.7 to 5.25V digital supply. A first-in/first-out (FIFO) reduces interface overhead and allows the conversion results to be read at the end of the conversion sequence or between conversions.

This new family of ADCs provides excellent dynamic performance (SFDR = 84dBc, SINAD = 71dB) and DC accuracy (±2 LSB INL, ±1 LSB DNL) in a 7mm x 7mm, 48-pin TQFP package.

The devices operate over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range. Prices start at $4.99 (1000-up, FOB USA).
