| Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor Powers Acer Altos Server | | | |
MILANO, ITALY -AMD today announced the introduction of the Acer Altos G5350, the first Dual-Core AMD
Opteron™ processor-based pedestal server from an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in Europe. This server is
expected to bring superior performance to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) looking for a solution capable of
running separate or consolidated server workloads.
“AMD and Acer have worked closely together to provide a
powerful platform addressing the specific requirements of the SMB segment,” said Pat Patla, director,
Server/Workstation Marketing, Microprocessor Solutions Sector, AMD. “The Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor, with
Direct Connect Architecture, provides the computing capacity to support growing numbers of applications and users
typically required by this market segment. Moreover, AMD64 technology protects companies’ software investments by
enabling a seamless migration from 32- to 64-bit computing as business needs evolve.”
Designed
from the ground up for multi-core computing, Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors deliver additional performance within
the same power envelope as single-core processors, enhancing the performance-per-watt leadership of AMD64
processor-based platforms.
“The Acer Altos G5350 is designed to boost our customers’
productivity,” said John Roberts, Server Business Unit manager, Acer Europe, Middle East and Africa. “It is an ideal
solution for SMBs with no extensive IT infrastructure that are for looking for performance and scalability.”
The Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor-based server enhances computing capacity without increasing
power or physical space requirements, thereby lowering operational costs. With this introduction, Acer continues to
refine its line-up based on AMD64 technology, including notebooks, desktop computers, media center PCs, and now
server solutions. Acer customers can now benefit from the leading performance of award-winning AMD64 technology at
home and in the office.
The new Acer Altos G5350 will be available in single- and dual-core
configurations starting in July 2005 in Europe. |
