TEXAS INSTRUMENTS EXTENDS BATTERY LIFE IN PORTABLE SYSTEMS WITH INDUSTRY'S LOWEST-POWER PROGRAMMABLE DSP
HOUSTON -- Continuing to drive innovation in low power audio/voice applications, Texas Instruments Incorporated announced today the lowest-power addition to its line of ultra low-power programmable digital signal processors (DSPs). The new TMS320C5506 DSP requires just 0.12 mW of power in standby mode and includes other power-efficient features that make it the lowest-power processor in its class. A full 128 KB of on-chip memory makes for greater programming ease, and a full-speed USB 2.0 interface supplies cost-efficient wired connectivity. Award for the “Compact LED Light Sources” project team
The Science Award from the Stifterverband (a German foundation for the promotion of science) was presented to the “Compact LED Light Sources” project team on October 18, 2006 at the annual Fraunhofer conference in Bremen. In addition to OSRAM Opto Semiconductors the team includes the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF, Carl Zeiss Jena and Siemens VDO Automotive. The aim of the project promoted by the German Federal Ministry for Research and Development was to identify new applications for LEDs and produce marketable products.

CMA CGM and IBM Establish Joint Venture

FTI Network Is Now Online, Delivering Vital Voice and Data Communications Services to the FAA at Significant Cost Savings

Harris Corporation Team Completes Cutover of FAA's Legacy Satellite System to New FTI Network
WASHINGTON, DC, — Harris Corporation today announced that it has successfully completed the cutover of the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) legacy satellite network, FAATSAT, to the new FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure (FTI) satellite network, or FTI-SAT. The FTI-SAT transition affected 85 earth stations and 200 satellite services and was completed on schedule in just over 12 months as part of the overall FTI program. Harris is the prime contractor and system architect for the FTI program that was awarded in 2002. The announcement was made during the 51st Annual Air Traffic Control Association (ATCA) Conference and Exposition (Harris Booth #415) being held October 29 through November 1, 2006 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC.

Harris Corporation Team Transfers Control of FAA Administrative Network to FTI Network Operations and Control Center
WASHINGTON, DC, — Harris Corporation today announced that its Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Telecommunications Infrastructure (FTI) team has successfully transferred all operational monitoring and management of the FAA's new FTI Mission Support network to the Harris Network Operations Control Center (NOCC). Completed ahead of schedule in June 2006, the Mission Support network replaced the FAA's legacy, wide-area Administrative Data Transmission Network (ADTN) and is now online and being used to transport administrative functions such as payroll and e-mail. Harris is the prime contractor and system architect for the overall FTI program that was awarded in 2002.
