Fairchild Semiconductor’s Hi-Speed Multi-Media Switch Integrates USB and Audio Switching Capability in Either MicroPak™ or Ultra-Compact UMLP Package | South Portland, Maine–Fairchild Semiconductor’s highly integrated multi-media switches offer an industry-leading combination of features, performance and packaging for a range of portable applications. The FSA201 and FSA221 integrate both USB and negative swing (low-distortion) audio switching functionality into a single package. This integration enables portable applications to handle either USB or audio signals via one connector and helps designers eliminate the need for additional components. These compact double pole/double throw (DPDT) analog switches are especially well suited for use in popular electronic products that demand high functionality in a limited space. Typical applications include cell phones, MP3 players, digital cameras, notebooks, LCD monitors and set-top boxes.

CHARTERED INVESTS IN DESIGN SERVICES FIRM TO ENHANCE DESIGN READINESS OF VALUE-ADDED SOLUTIONS | SINGAPORE - Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing, one of the world's top dedicated foundries, today announced it is making a strategic investment in Gateway Silicon Inc. (GSI), a Taiwan-based firm specializing in ASIC/System-on-Chip (SoC) design services and intellectual property (IP) development and integration. GSI is a spin-off of Taiwanese integrated device manufacturer (IDM) Macronix International Co., Ltd. Macronix will continue to hold the majority stake in GSI. Terms of the investment were not announced.

Announce FIRST RoboTech Expo at ASU Downtown Phoenix Campus | CHANDLER, Ariz., — Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, and the Arizona FIRST Robotics Planning Committee, in conjunction with Arizona State University’s (ASU’s) Applied Learning Technologies Institute, announce the FIRST RoboTech Expo at Arizona State University (ASU) on October 28, 2006. The event will take place at the new ASU Downtown Phoenix Campus, located at 411 N. Central Avenue, from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. It will include a mini robotics competition, followed by workshops taught by FIRST volunteers on everything from team building, to fund raising, to safety and mentoring.
