STMicroelectronics Unveils 90nm System-on-Chip Capability for Hard Disk Drives
Geneva - STMicroelectronics today revealed its design and manufacturing capability for hard disk drive (HDD) SoC devices in 90nm technology. A new device – integrating ST’s IP (intellectual property) in the hard disk controller, the read channel, serial ATA interface (SATA) and memory – is the first such product in the market to be manufactured in a 90nm process. Functional silicon is currently being evaluated and tested, and is sourced from the world-class Crolles2 Alliance 300mm-wafer facility in Crolles, France.

Microchip Technology Brings New 16-bit dsPIC® Digital Signal Controller to Production
CHANDLER, Ariz., — Microchip Technology Inc. today announced that it continues the production rollout of its 16-bit product portfolio with a new dsPIC® Digital Signal Controller (DSC) that offers designers a performance speed of 30 million instructions per second (MIPS), self-programming capabilities via Flash memory, and industrial and extended temperature ranges. The dsPIC30F6015 DSC features an advanced pulse-width modulation (PWM) peripheral designed for power-conversion, motor-control and lighting applications, an associated 1 million samples per second (MSPS) 10-bit analog-to-digital (A/D) converter, 144 Kbytes of Flash program memory and can operate at full speed using an internal oscillator (no crystal required). This DSC is offered in a 64-pin TQFP package, and is ideal for applications that drive power FETs and require advanced algorithmic processing.

Micrel Launches Industry’s Smallest LVDS 1:2 Fanout For
San Jose, Calif. — Micrel Inc., (Nasdaq:MCRL), an industry leader in analog, high-bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions, today added to its family of high-speed clock and data distribution ICs with the introduction of the SY89835U, a 1:2 LVDS fanout buffer featuring Internal Termination and fail safe input in a tiny 2mm x 2mm 8-pin foot print.
