World's First Burst-Mode Clock-Phase Aligner Acquires a Signal in < 13 Bits, Enabling Best-in-Class BPON and GPON OLT Designs
Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3634, industry's first burst-mode clock-phase aligner (CPA) for BPON and GPON applications. Fiber to the Home (FTTH) deployments using PONs are expected to progress from the current BPON technology to next-generation GPON technology. GPON specifications allow downstream continuous data transfer at 2.488Gbps and upstream burst data transfer at 1.244Gbps. Operating at 622Mbps and at 1.244Gbps within the signal's first 13 bits, the MAX3634 is ideal for BPON and GPON optical line terminations (OLT) receivers.

Microchip Announces dsPIC33 Digital Signal Controller Family w/ 27 New Devices
CHANDLER, Ariz. — Microchip Technology Inc. announced the dsPIC33 family of digital signal controllers (DSCs) for embedded designers who need high levels of performance, memory and I/O without the complexity of traditional digital signal processors (DSPs). The dsPIC33 family operates at 40 MIPS, with family members ranging from 64 to 256 Kbytes of self-programming Flash, 8 to 30 Kbytes of RAM and 64- to 100-pin packages. The dsPIC33 features an 8-channel DMA and some versions have two 1.1 Msps A/D converters. Additionally, the new dsPIC33 family has the same instruction set as the dsPIC30 family and uses the same universal MPLAB® development tools that are common to all of Microchip’s controller families.

Microchip Announces 49 New 16-bit MCUs & DSCs; Increases Options for Designers
CHANDLER, Ariz. — Microchip Technology Inc. announced its first 16-bit microcontroller (MCU) family -- the PIC24 -- as well as its second 16-bit digital signal controller (DSC) family – the dsPIC33. The two families offer 49 new 16-bit devices for embedded system designers requiring increased performance, memory and peripherals. Combined with the current 21 DSC products in our dsPIC30 family, this brings the total 16-bit devices offered by Microchip to 70.
