Microchip Technology Announces Stand-Alone Analog Front End for Wireless Authentication Applications
CHANDLER, Ariz. — Microchip Technology Inc. announced its first stand-alone, analog front end (AFE) for smart, low frequency (125 kHz typical) wireless authentication applications. The MCP2030 device is a 3-channel transponder AFE that provides programmable antenna tuning and best-in-industry adjustable modulation depth that runs as low as 8 percent. The MCP2030 AFE is ideal for passive-keyless-entry, tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS), data acquisition and other wireless authentication applications.

New Input-Current-Limited Battery Charger with Integrated 3.3V LDO Offers Most Complete and Cost-Effective Solution
SUNNYVALE, CA- -Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX8730, a highly integrated, accurate, and low-cost battery-charger IC. The MAX8730 charges three to four lithium-ion (Li+) cells in series at charge currents greater than 3.5A. Analog inputs control input current limit, charge current, and voltage. An integrated 3.3V LDO supplies over 20mA current to any external circuitry or ICs, such as a keyboard controller. Three monitoring outputs simplify design, and save external component cost and board space. Two analog outputs are available for charge current and input current; a digital output is used to detect AC-adapter presence.

NI Introduces High-Voltage Mechanical Relay Digital I/O PC Plug-In Devices
National Instruments today announced the expansion of its data acquisition offerings with the addition of two new Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listed high-voltage plug-in mechanical relay devices. NI, a worldwide leader in data acquisition with more than 6 million data acquisition channels sold in the last year, continues to make it easier for engineers to develop measurement and control systems while integrating them into a common programming environment. The new National Instruments PCI-6521, PXI-6521 and PCI-6520 industrial digital I/O devices offer engineers a low-cost alternative for applications requiring up to 150 VAC/VDC switching capabilities.

SOT23 power transistors take 80% less space
Achieving the same current handling capability as very much larger SOT223 equivalents, a new series of SOT23 packaged bipolar transistors from Zetex Semiconductors will significantly reduce PCB size. A move from SOT223’s 6.7mm x 7.3mm footprint to the 2.5mm x 3.05mm footprint of SOT23 provides a space saving of more than 80%.

Spansion Announces World’s First Single-chip 1 Gigabit NOR Flash Memory
SUNNYVALE, CALIF. - Spansion LLC announced it is sampling the world’s first single-chip 1 gigabit (Gb) NOR Flash memory device to customers in the embedded market. Based on 90-nanometer (nm) MirrorBit™ technology, the 1 Gb MirrorBit GL device is the highest density, single-chip NOR Flash memory device on the market. It is designed for reliable code execution and data storage in a wide range of embedded applications including automotive navigation systems, communications infrastructure equipment, gaming and industrial control. The 1 Gb MirrorBit GL device is the first based on the Spansion 90-nm MirrorBit process technology unveiled last month.
