Philips ships 15-millionth hybrid IC tuner for the digital TV market
Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) today announced that it has sold 15 million hybrid analog/digital TV tuner chips, accounting for over 30 percent of the total number of tuner chips sold worldwide since 2003. Philips' advanced versatile hybrid tuner chips meet the various worldwide standards for both analog and digital devices. This integration simplifies the design process by combining both functionalities in a single chip. By reducing the amount of discrete components manufacturers can easily and more cost-effectively introduce new digital TV (DTV) devices, cable/terrestrial tuners and set-top boxes (STBs) with faster time-to-market.
